How To Be The Best Motorcycle Rider You Can Be

Whether you’re a meat cutter, warehouse or retail worker, security guard, leader of any capacity, or have hobbies like motorcycling, skiing, skydiving, etc., you can apply these principles to your life and become an asset to your friends, family, and community.

S.M.A.R.T. Rider Principles
- Seeks, Recognizes, & Understands Hazardous Situations
- Maintains Fundamental Motorcycle Riding Skills
- Acquires & Uses Personal Protective Equipment
- Rescues Injured Motorcyclists With Medical Training
- Teaches & Mentors Other Motorcycle Riders

Being a S.M.A.R.T. Rider may have started out as a motorcycle-specific way of being successful, but over time has evolved into how we live our lives. These principles shape how we see problems, issues, and setbacks, how we overcome them, how we prepare for them in the future, and how we can give these lessons back to our communities to make those around us safer and more capable.

This foundation is what I fall back on any time I experience an inconvenience. Stress = Growth, and seeing the good in a bad situation or learning from my mistakes allows me to pass that information along so that others don’t have to replicate my setbacks. When I come across something new or something I haven’t prepared for, this is where having the training to seek out the hazards, be situationally aware, and see the big picture, combined with making sure that if I slip up, I have whatever gear or protective equipment will be my safety net.

How you live your day-to-day life shows your character. Having some direction, whether it’s a mantra, mission statement, ideology, religion, or ethos, allows humans to abide by principles that help guide their decision-making ability. Without these, we can be unpredictable, wild, or reckless in pursuing a fulfilling life. The S.M.A.R.T. Rider Principles have helped me adopt a solid foundation and evolve from that to fit my lifestyle, and I’m confident they can do the same for you.
